Re-Issued: NE Lines & Stations and 1922 Atlas

North Eastern Lines and Stations was produced by the late Stephen L Bragg, and Eddie Scarlett, over a long period in the 1980s and 1990s. It was originally published by the association in 1999, and has long been out of print – copies are hard to find.

The opportunity was taken to add some information before release of the new version. The lists of line names have been expanded to include the lettering appearing on the top of the relevant mileposts and we have also added drawings of the standard mile, zero and distance point posts, along with some photographs.

Stephen Bragg’s NER Atlas 1922 appeared in 2005 as a pilot edition; it has also long been out of print. The map sheets are ordered geographically from NW to SE and are numbered from 1 to 125, some being enlargements of particularly complicated areas. Three detailed indexes assist the reader to find the relevant map page.

Taken together, these two publications form a comprehensive and invaluable documentation of the North Eastern Railway and the Hull & Barnsley Railway at the Grouping. The NERA Trustees decided that this information should be more widely available and accordingly have re-issued the books without making a charge. We should like to acknowledge the support of Stephen Bragg’s sons; Eddie Scarlett; and Mike Senatore of the Atlas publisher, Industrialogical Associates.
