Station Masters of the North Eastern Railway and its Successors (eBook)

£7.50

Category:

Description

Many years have passed since our late member Jim Stork first put a list of NER and HBR area station masters together, mainly compiled from staff magazines and running from 1911 to the BR period.

Nicholas Fleetwood has completely revised and updated the list, and it now runs to almost 200 pages, split into lines and the stations on each. This work has entailed research at the National Archives, searching census returns, and looking for press reports in the British Newspaper Archive, to name but three of the sources. It also covers the period from 1851, with some data from earlier still. Under each station are the names of the incumbents, their starting and finishing dates, and a note of previous and subsequent appointments.

This register is downloadable as a PDF/2A fully searchable document. It represents the best current knowledge of events which took place many years ago; in some cases, our knowledge or official records are incomplete.

Significant changes in the register are thought to be very unlikely, but if new information were to come to light, we will issue an addendum sheet which may be downloaded free of charge from the NERA website.

If you have any additional information we would be delighted to hear from you – the easiest way is to use the contact page for the archive on our website.

The sales revenue from the register will, at Nicholas’ request, be used to support conservation and digitisation of historic documents in the NERA archive.
