Description
This 79-page working timetable provides a fascinating insight into the pattern of passenger and goods services provided across the Northern & Southern Divisions of the North Eastern Railway. It is reflective of the period when the east coast traffic was still routed via Knottingley to York and ran via Leamside prior to the opening of the present line via Durham. It includes the Newcastle & Carlisle lines absorbed in 1862 and the Stockton & Darlington subsequent to the working amalgamation struck between the NER & S&DR in 1863.
