Description
This is the eagerly awaited latest in the “Signalling Centres” series, completing the complex history of railways and signalling around Leeds. It covers far more than the signalling heritage so will appeal to those with an interest in the railways of the area. Whilst the first part, Leeds No.2A, covered the North Eastern Railway lines, this volume focuses on the history of the Midland, GNR and L&NWR lines, all of which ultimately became part of BR’s North Eastern Region. This includes not only Leeds Central and Leeds Wellington (Leeds City North) termini but also covers an area extending as far out as Stourton, Kirkstall, Bramley, Beeston and Morley.
As with previous books in this series, the author has drawn on extensive research over many years using primary sources wherever possible and has been fortunate to be supported by many well-known photographers and railwaymen who have been willing to share their memories of the Leeds area. Extensive use has been made of maps and diagrams, many of which have been especially drawn, together with a wide selection of colour & monochrome photographs, to help illustrate the history and development of these lines.
This 232 page A4 size publication is printed on gloss art paper throughout with a gloss colour card cover. There are over 300 colour & monochrome photographs, together with numerous specially drawn signal box diagrams. ISBN 978-1-911360-44-5
