Description
This facsimile covers those lines which come together in 1854 as a result of the amalgamation of the York, Newcastle & Berwick, York & North Midland and Leeds Northern Railways. At the time of publication the Newcastle & Carlisle was still an independent concern reluctantly becoming part of the NER by an act passed on 17th July 1862. The Stockton & Darlington didn’t become the NER’s Central Division until 13th July 1863 and even after that date retained a fair degree of autonomy
