NER (Southern Division) Working Timetable, 1/10/1898 – 30/4/1899

£6.95

Description

This reproduction of a NER Working Timetable (WTT) covers the company’s passenger and goods workings on the York to Normanton main line and the branches to the east of Leeds and Harrogate. Also contained are all the branches around York, Hull and Scarborough and up to Whitby. The main line north of York, the Leeds Northern and associated branches to the west & north of Northallerton are covered in the Northern Division WTT.

The WTT sets out the level for passenger and goods services but also includes trip workings (know as pilot workings on the NER) and light engine movements between stations. It should be remembered that the WTT sets out the basic service, weekly notices could add extra services or cancel trains no longer required. An increase in fish traffic landings at Hull, for example, could generate workings from the port whilst an increase in coal exports would generate extra trains from the Normanton and Castleford areas. Some of these are shown as ‘conditional’ or Q trains which could be canceled by the goods or mineral superintendents office staff, if not required.
