Description
This publication sets out the list of all branches, signal boxes, ground frames and level crossings at June 1909, within the Southern Division of the North Eastern Railway. Reorganisation of the Engineering Department in 1899 caused lines previously forming the Central Division to be split between the Southern and Northern areas. The Central Division approximated to ex-Stockton & Darlington Railway territory. The enlarged Southern Division grew to have new boundaries at Barnard Castle East Jct., Shildon Jct., Low Beaumont Hill and Norton South Jct. The booklet was apparently used to ensure signal engineering work done at a location was charged to the name of the correct signal box or ground frame and branch, the original copy of the booklet used in this reproduction being issued to the Accounts Office within the Engineering Department.
