Description
This publication sets out the pattern of mineral train working on the lines in the Sunderland District, which covered a wide part of the Durham coalfield down to the Staiths at Dunston / West Dunston, Tyne Dock, Sunderland South Dock and the Hartlepools. Though booked goods trains were included in the Working Timetable, mineral traffic was co-ordinated by the Railway’s mineral office and the collieries, to order, based on the tonnage to be shipped and the loading of the ships. It also includes paths for trains of imported iron ore from Tyne Dock or Sunderland to Consett Iron Works.
