LNER (NE Area) Working of Darlington – Saltburn Passenger Train Service, 1934

In May 1933 a half-hourly interval passenger service between Darlington and Saltburn was introduced at the same time as improvements were made to the Coast Line service between Scarborough and Saltburn (see separate NERA Publication). The new Darlington – Saltburn service proved popular with passengers however after many complaints of unpunctuality the same committee as looked at the Coast Line were tasked with investigating the root causes behind the delays. Their recommended improvements to station & engine working, station alterations, standardisation of carriage sets and parcel traffic amendments are fully detailed in this report.
