Description

Most of the main line passenger services terminating at Yorkshire destinations were included in the Eastern Region Great Northern Main Line carriage roster as they were not classed as ‘East Coast’ or ‘North Eastern’ regional services. At the time many of the principal trains to Yorkshire were multi-portion with through carriages to Bradford and Hull in addition to the main train which ran through to Leeds Central – the Hull portion was detached at Doncaster whilst the portion to Bradford Exchange was either detached at Wakefield Westgate or Leeds. There were also through trains to Harrogate or Ripon, including the Yorkshire Pullman for Harrogate, which also conveyed portions for Bradford and Hull. In the summer months there was the ‘Scarborough Flyer’ from King’s Cross in addition to the Saturday’s only through train to Filey Holiday Camp; Bridlington was also served by its own through coach on a Saturday, a rare Locker Composite, attached to the 1.28pm Hull train.
