Description
This reproduction of the carriage working book for the winter of 1958-59 covers East Coast Main Line (ECML) services from London Kings Cross to Newcastle and over the border to Edinburgh and Scotland. It shows how the trains were formed with some workings attaching or detaching coaches or ‘portions’ en route to the final destination. Mark 1 coaching stock introduced by BR from 1951 provided much of the general service requirement (open and compartment stock) seen on the principal ECML trains. However many trains still included individual carriages from the pre-war prestige streamlined trains and Thompson designs built for the ‘Flying Scotsman’ or ‘Capitals Limited’.
