Description
Like the pre-nationalised companies before them, British Railways were called upon to carry a wide range of large, indivisible loads produced by heavy industry between works and customer, or dockside for export. As older wagons fell due for withdrawal new wagons would be built, sometimes to new designs or by re-using old designs updated with BR pattern axleboxes and buffers. This book brings together diagrams of these new special wagons built from 1948. The diagrams were grouped and numbered by wagon type: Armour Plate, Boiler, Flat, Glass, Low Machinery, Trestle, and the various types of well wagon, etc., and are thus separate from the British Railways ‘Diagrams of Freight Stock’ book, issued for general purpose wagons.
