Did You Know?

In World War One, 18,339 employees of the NER (just over one third of the workforce) were released for military service. Sadly, 2,236 of them died. They are commemorated on the memorial on Station Approach, York, designed by architect Sir Edwin Lutyens and dedicated in 1924.
