Line Diagrams

These diagrammatical plans portray a branch line or group of lines in a given area of the North Eastern Railway. Drawn as a strip map the diagrams show all the features on or connected to the main running lines including platforms, signal boxes, junctions, station & private siding connections, all referenced against the mileage. All viaducts, tunnels and bridges are shown in outline plan and elevation together with the materials used in their construction. Whilst the majority of the sheets are undated it is thought that line diagrams originate in the late NER period. Some sheets are replacements from the 1920s as track layouts, etc., changed. Alterations and removals did take place as locations closed and traffic declined, so other sources should be used to confirm dates.
