The 1870 signal cabins at Norton South and Norton East closed on 6 February 2021. They were among the oldest still in use on the national network; East cabin is a listed building. In this May 1966 shot by John Boyes we see WD 2-8-0 90014 passing Norton South on an Up class H freight from Hartlepool towards Stockton. The wagons close to the signal appear to be carrying timber pit props.
