Freight Traffic at Lamesley

While taking his daily exercise Michael Rising photographed 4E65, the 0830 Mossend to Tees Dock Tesco containers passing Lamesley on time at 12:34 on Sunday 3 January. The locomotive is Direct Rail Services Class 68 No. 68 006 Daring, one of the first batch of 15 3,800 hp Bo-Bo machines with Caterpillar C175-16 diesel engines and ABB 4FRA6063 traction motors built by Vossloh España from 2013 onwards.

In World War One, 18,339 employees of the NER (just over one third of the workforce) were released for military service. Sadly, 2,236 of them died. They are commemorated on the memorial on Station Approach, York, designed by architect Sir Edwin Lutyens and dedicated in 1924.
