Dear Members and Friends,
It has been an unusual year, to say the least. We managed to hold face-to-face meetings in Darlington and Hull (and a trustee meeting in York) before the pandemic put a stop to these.
Nevertheless we have been able to hold several virtual meetings using the internet. These have attracted positive comments, and we welcomed viewers from a wide area, in fact extending around the world.
North Eastern Express is the main communication between the Association’s members, and despite initial concerns our printers have been able to keep to the production schedule. We were also able to print and publish our new book on engine sheds, as well as venturing into eBooks, and enabling new members to join us via the website.
The website has been the gateway for many of our activities during the year, both for sales, news items, viewing archive documents and photographs, and registering for on-line meetings. Alan Tully (our “webmaster”) has put in an extraordinary amount of work to get these features to work. If you haven’t yet done so, log on to the members’ area and browse through “My digital archive” – there’s lots to see!
Please keep an eye on the website for forthcoming virtual meetings, as several are already open for registration. Of course we will resume face-to-face meetings as soon as this is safe and practical, but until then we hope that you will enjoy taking part from the comfort of your own home.
On behalf of the trustees, I would like to thank you for supporting the Association, and to wish you a happy Christmas and a peaceful, and above all a healthy New Year.
